Are easy programming languages decreasing the barriers to entry for a-want-to-be-programmer?
Yes. The market is flooded with programmers. It is like every chicken hatching out of the shell is a programmer. In this sentence, a programmer, in my definition anyone who creates a software. A software can be a stand alone software or a networked software or a web based application or supposedly even a website, since all these things take a language (computer language) to write and anyone who knows a certain language irrespective of it's magnitude, is supposedly a programmer. Is it actually true?
If one looks at what the top 20 software firms in the world like Google, Facebook or Amazon to just name a handful, they all recruit students for a role related to the core of softwares, from gruaduates pursuing Software Engineering. Here, we clearly need a specific definition of an Engineer especially a Software Engineer. Most software engineers graduate pursuing a degree titled as Graduate/Bachelors in Computer Science. If you look at a typical Computer Science course, they consist of some very solid Mathametical backed-up subjects that fulfil the core essence of computer and it's workings. They are barely taught languages directly, meaning they do not have subjects like "Core Java" or "Web Programming in HTML, CSS and PHP". So if someone asks, why do software firms never hire from the "many other computer degree courses or affiliated certifications". I think, every certification course that is affiliated with institutions or even organizations is pure marketing and marketing is full of shit, simple. Every human on earth "buying", if you will, these certifications are not programmers. These have no value in the state of the art engineering or building intelligence that is capable to run real time.
Then, why doesn't everybody become an engineer? Well, it really depends on the way you have been bought up, really. If you have been really intelligent, energetic or smart kid throughout your education, you can really afford to become an engineer right after finishing school. This doesn't really mean you cannot become one whenever you want. Say, you realize somethings later in life because you haven't been that bright a kid or didn't go to the best school having the best teachers. What is important is, one should be capable enough to realize. The constantly building of newer and newer layers of programming languages on top of the basics is really decreasing the visibility to see the core essence. Today, you use an alreay available tool that reduces 80% of the thinking like MS Visual Studio or Adobe Dreamweaver or Eclipse etc. Again, the point comes down to realization. Are you able to realize, when and how or what happens behind every drag-drop release of mouse click you do on one of these softwares? 90% of the people wouldn't, guaranteed. They are simply running a rat race where if you know these tools properly, you will successfully acquire a job at Infosys. Bullshit.
The number of people who are not able to realize this fact are overwhelmengly increasing, everyday. Stop and take a moment to think what "really" matters to you.
